I live in Muscat, Masqat, Oman.

I was born in Iraq in 1990, I stayed there until 2005 then my parents and I left to Oman because it's unbearable there.

Anyways, my passion about computers started when I was 6 years old; that's when I got my first computer, it was a Sakhr, not sure which model, though. It had GW-BASIC, Arabic BASIC (Yes, BASIC with Arabic keywords), Arabic Typing, English Typing, English-Arabic translator, and Arabic-English translator.
At that time there was a book in my dad's bookshelf about BASIC, I used to write the programs, run them, edit them, and see what difference that makes.

Then when I was 8 I got a Pentium II, it was still new then, actually, it was really new then. Sadly, I kept programming with BASIC, until I was 12 when a family friend suggested VB, so I tried it, I used to go to Visual Basic for Arab and download examples from there, read lessons, etc...
Then, I decided to move on, so in 2006 I started learning C, few months later I started learning C++, in 2007, I started learning Perl and I really like it.
Also, in 2007, I started getting interested in web programming, I didn't choose to move to web development, it just happened that I was asked to create a website for the church group I belong to, for more details read YFC Oman Website.

When I fist got my Pentium II I used to use Windows 98, and then I moved to Windows Millennium, then Windows XP.
In October 2006 I decided to give Linux a try because I was inspired by How To Become A Hacker, written by Eric S. Raymond. So I bought an issue of Linux Format magazine (it cost 1/4 of my allowance) it had Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 on its DVD so I installed it, and I got addicted to it. I used Mandriva for two weeks before I got sick of it, then I tried Kubuntu, it was OK, but, something didn't feel right, I used Gentoo 2007.0 for 3 months, it was a cool learning experience, but, I got sick of compiling KDE every time a new KDE version is released, now, I'm happily using Fedora 8.

From 2003 till 2007 I was using what I like to call the "family laptop", it's my dad's laptop but my dad, my mom, and I were using it, I had Windows XP installed on its internal HDD (for my parents) and I had Linux installed on my external HDD.
Right now I have my own laptop, an HP Pavilion tx2032au, running Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm planning to give Kubuntu another shot when 8.10 is released.
